Barbara Walters brings Adam Lambert back to ABC this week

October 12th, 2009 . by admin

We all know how ABC feels about Adam Lambert. After his much-debated performance at the American Music Awards last month.

After his stage performance which included simulated sex acts and guy-on-guy kissing, the network reacted swiftly to the backlash that was thrown its way. Not only did ABC decide to cancel Adam’s scheduled appearance on Good Morning America the next day (with CBS snatching him up immediately for their Early Show), they’ve also gone on to cancel his appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
Clearly the network is afraid Adam will go wild in front of the cameras again and are reluctant to give him another chance. However, if Barbara Walters wants Adam Lambert on ABC then the network will comply because… well, it’s Barbara Walters after all!
This week Barbara is doing her annual “Ten Most Fascinating People of 2009″ special on Wednesday night where Adam will be one of the top ten. I’m curious to see why she includes him. I certainly consider his one of the most fascinating people of the year, but he’s one of my favorite Idol contestants ever so I’m biased. I’m just wondering what compelled her to put him on her list.
Following the special, Barbara will have Adam on morning talk show The View for an interview and a performance. Barbara is not one to shy away from the tough questions so it will be interesting to see what she asks him, especially since Adam isn’t exactly shy either and will likely have some good answers. I presume that he’ll be performing “Whataya Want From Me” which is less controversial than “For Your Entertainment”.
Still, how much do you want to bet that ABC gave Adam very specific guidelines about what he is and is not allowed to do in front of their cameras while he’s performing?
Below the cut I’ve included a video clip of Adam Lambert performing “Whataya Want From Me” on Ellen last week so you can see that he’s not always crazy on stage.

Adam appeared on Ellen on December 1st and gave a great performance.

I preferred this tremendously to the American Music Awards performance. I actually really like the song “For Your Entertainment” and what Adam did on stage didn’t personally offend me but I feel that he was too busy trying to act out the song and his vocals fell apart as a result. He’s too good a singer to let that happen so I was really happy that “Whataya Want From Me” has been sung very well on all of his appearances thus far.
Will you watch Adam Lambert on The View this week?
