Crushable Books: Get ‘Waxed’ With Robert Rave
November 30th, 2009 . byEvery writer has to do a bit of research when they are writing a book. In Robert Rave’s case, he got waxed.
“I did my eyebrows and I did my chest,” says Robert, author of the new book Waxed, about three sisters in different life stages who own a waxing salon. As for his brows, “I feel like I need to do that anyway. My chest, I don’t think I would do again.”
He didn’t scream “KELLY CLARKSON!!!” like Steve Carell in Knocked Up, but on a scale of 1 to 10, he’d give the chest-waxing experience a “9.”
“It’s a couple notches below getting a tattoo,” he tells Crushable. (For the record: He has a tattoo of hummingbird feeding off a flower on his inner bicep. “It symbolizes living in the moment,” he says, sheepishly.)
Currently, Robert is all writing, all the time. The former publicist-turned-writer published the buzzy first novel Spin last August; the book, an insidery glimpse of the high-octane PR industry, set off rumors it was written about Robert’s former boss, the controversial East Coast-based publicist Lizzie Grubman. At the time of publication, she issued a statement wishing him well. (Again, for the record: Robert says the book was not about Lizzie.)
A year later, he’s about to release Waxed. The book, due out Aug. 3, tells the story of siblings Carolina, an OCD-Alpha female, Anna, who’s newly divorced, and Sofia, who’s newly married but questioning her wedded bliss. There is a moving plot twist involving Anna’s son which we won’t spoil here.
Another plot thread is the special connection between women and their waxists, the keeper of hundreds of client secrets. And with more and more women getting waxed more often, the secrets multiply.
“One woman told me (her client) was getting a Brazilian bikini wax for her husband. In actuality, it was for her girlfriend,” says Robert.
Robert, who is now based in Los Angeles, is in talks to turn Waxed into a TV series. (He won’t reveal his dream cast because if an actor whom he didn’t mention gets chosen for the role, then feelings will get hurt).
OK, we’ll go! How about Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian?
